One significant difference is the optics. Video camcorders are not made with 35mm optics in mind, they use tiny chips that are dwarfed in compression to the huge chips found in 35mm Digital Cinema cameras. Huge Chips and 35mm optics result in a superior picture when used in the right hands, even if the video camcorder is Hi-Definition, the small chip size and lack of 35mm optics means muted quality. 3 chips are meaningless today, and while most good video camcorders use three very small chips (sensors) instead of one, professional Digital Cinema Cameras use only one HUGE Chip which yields a far superior image then any video camcorder. THe huge sensor means a brighter image, better color representation, and the use of very high end lenses which provide superior sharpness over any Hi-Def Video Camcorder. The image below shows a comparison between a variety of chips and formats. Most HD Wedding Camcorders use 1/3" chips, even smaller then the smallest one displayed on this chart from Red Digital Cinema. (the forefathers of digital cinema). We use the largest format sensor as displaed on the top of the chart.  Depth of field can be described as a fuzzy background and sharp foreground, just like a great wedding portrait. This allows us as your director to attract your eye to a certain part of the image. Using this advantage in combination with our film style camera work allows us to achieve the look and feel that is unique to us and allows for a more artistic and fashion oriented rendition of your wedding. Our Fusion packages are really Photo Cinematography and not videography at all. Your wedding photographer shoots with a 35mm Digital Camera, so our image can yield the same (or better) image, yet has motion and sound. The reason a good photographer shoots 35mm is because of the depth of field, choice of lenses, clarity and colorimitry of skin tone. so if you are looking for a fashion oriented wedding film, then our Cinema fusion packages are for you. Highly experienced and skilled Professional wedding cinematographers are best suited to use these cameras since they are best used without automatic setting. Try it yourself, go into any DSLR camera store, pick up a camera and try to zoom, focus, pan and tilt while following an action shot without being out of focus and shaky, then do it for 10 hours straight where every shot counts! We can only service a limited amount of wedding clients each year and can not send out crews of filmmakers and hope they understand the complexity of your wedding. We have 4 main cinematographers, you can hire one or all of us, but once we are booked, we have to turn jobs down instead of trying to "match you" with someone that is learning on your wedding day. |
